About

About OINS

OINS connects communities, knowledge and practical support around interconnected environmental and social challenges, with a particular focus on smaller, often rural and underserved places.

Why we exist

OINS grew from research and field experience showing how uneven access to knowledge, networks and resources can shape local capacity to respond to sustainability challenges.

Our approach is bottom-up: communities should be able to shape solutions around their own priorities, knowledge and circumstances. OINS connects local and indigenous knowledge with scientific evidence, practical experience and wider networks.

Our vision

A world in which people reconnect with nature and with each other, and future generations can prosper.

Interdependence

Environmental and social systems are connected. We work across those links rather than treating challenges in isolation.

Empowerment

Local actors should retain ownership and agency over the solutions that affect them.

Collaboration

Useful knowledge moves through trusted relationships, practical exchange and shared learning across different perspectives.
